Condition and Returns

Bidders must satisfy themselves as to the condition of each lot.  Condition reports will be available on item descriptions.  All weights and measures should be regarded as approximate. Viewing days/times will be posted online.

Whilst every care is taken, Antiques & Chic does not accept responsibility for items described incorrectly either in the catalogue or the online auction.

Antiques & Chic shall not be liable for any default of the purchaser or vendor. Antiques & Chic shall not be liable for any loss or damage to the goods left in their care by vendors or purchasers.  Antiques & Chic gives no warranties in respect of these matters and no lots are to be returned to Antiques & Chic.

Commission and Charges

Buyers Premium and VAT UK

The final selling bid at auction is known as the “hammer price”. The hammer price is inclusive of VAT.  Antiques & Chic Auctions charges a buyer’s premium of 15% of the hammer price.

Buyer’s premium is subject to VAT at the current rate of 20%.  Therefore the final invoice total for bidders will be 18% above the hammer price inclusive of VAT.

An example for a lot purchased at £100 would be as follows:

£100 hammer price. £15.00 buyer’s premium.  £3.00 VAT on buyer's premium.

Total amount due: £118.00

Vat in respect of non-UK buyers

If a buyer outside of the UK instructs the purchase to be shipped overseas then the auctioneer can demonstrate proof of export and thereby be authorised to remove VAT from the buyer’s invoice.  If however, a buyer is handling the export in person or through a shipper independently the VAT will have to be paid and then reclaimed by the buyer or the buyer’s shipper at the port of departure.  Buyers are reminded that it is their responsibility to comply with UK export regulations and any local import requirements.

Payment

Please note that bids are not retractable and payment is due on receipt of your invoice. Payment will be accepted by cash (in person) or debit/credit card either over the phone or in person at our warehouse. Note this will need to be a UK card registered to a UK address and in the name of the buyer.

We also accept bank transfer into our bank account:
